AUGUST BOOKSTACK

FEELS LIKE FALLING by KRISTY WOODSON HARVEY
RATING: 5/5 STARS -- Romance

I stumbled upon this book when I was looking around in a small, quaint bookstore in Southern Pines, NC. I had already heard great things about it, so I knew I had to read it! I had never read a book by KWH before, so I was excited to dive in. Let me tell you, this book did NOT disappoint. If you love authors like Elin Hilderbrand, this one is definitely for you. This is a summer read about two southern women in Cape Carolina, who cross paths unexpectedly, and end up changing each other's lives through their friendship as they both experience difficult times. I read this book in two days because it was honestly THAT good and will leave you finishing the last page with a smile on your face!

RATING: 4/5 STARS -- Thriller

I am all about a good thriller, and I immediately wanted to read this one when it came out back in July. Not to mention, I loved the cover of this book! For some reason with this one, I was most intrigued towards the ending! After reading Mexican Gothic last month, I was able to see some similarities between these two novels in the gothic/suspense aspect. I won't spoil the plot, but basically Emily meets Scott when she is at her weakest, and he offers her an opportunity she feels she can't pass up. A summer job spent on a lavish, french estate? Who would say no? While it seems perfect, the unexpected twists and turns of her visit prove the opportunity wasn't what she expected, and she is forced to find her inner strength to escape. Definitely read this one next if you like a good mystery!

RATING: 5/5 STARS - Historical Fiction

This book was just WOW! Chanel Cleeton is one of my favorite authors, and this novel did not disappoint. This particular setting was 1935 in Key West, during a major hurricane that overtook and devastated the island. The narration jumped back and forth between three different women, whose unique stories all come together in the end. I was so surprised by the ending, and each woman's story was so interesting. It was beautifully written, and I really enjoyed all the rich & historical details that made this book so hard to put down. While this is definitely a historical novel, I loved that the plot still had so much suspense involved! This one was for sure one of my favorites of the month!

RATING: 4/5 STARS - Legal Thriller

Not going to lie, I've never read a John Grisham novel before so I was unsure what to expect. I've watched my dad read Grisham novels my whole life, and I had never picked one up until this one! I had heard a lot of good things about Camino Winds, so I borrowed this one from my dad and enjoyed it! It's definitely a different version of the thriller genre than I'm used to reading because it's more based on the legal side of thrillers. The novel is narrated by Bruce Cable, who is the owner of a successful bookstore, and friends with famous writers. When a hurricane unexpectedly strikes their island off the coast of Florida, one of his writer friends winds up murdered. This novel had so many twists and turns as the narrator navigated through trying to solve who and why someone would want this famous author murdered. Like I said, I've never read a Grisham book before, and apparently Camino Winds was a little different and laidback than his other works! It was definitely different (I can see why my dad liked this book, haha!) but I truly did enjoy it and understand why it's currently such a best-seller!

RATING: 5/5 STARS - Contemporary Fiction
*AVAILABLE 9/1/20*

If you grew up raving about 2000's pop culture like I did, this book is for you. This was my August BOTM pick, and it did not disappoint! I read what it was ultimately about, and immediately got Britney Spears having a mental breakdown type vibes. This novel shows you a glimpse into the glamour and fame that comes with being a popstar who is constantly in the public eye. This is one of those novels that really makes you sit back and think about what famous stars endure in the music industry, that onlookers have no idea about. Aside from all the early 2000's nostalgia I loved about this book, it did have a great message as well. This book is released 9/1/20!

Rating: 4/5 STARS - Romance

This one is for all my girls who are having Bachelor withdrawals right now! If you miss Chris Harrison saying "this is the most dramatic season yet", as much as I do, do yourself a favor and grab this book. This book has all the drama and romance you could need in a novel! You immediately are rooting for the main character, Bea, to find love on her winding journey as the first plus-sized "Main Squeeze" contestant. Grab your wine for this one, because it's a great light-hearted, feel good read that will definitely give you your fix of The Bachelor!

This was probably one of my favorite months of reading I've had in a while! I read multiple different genres and all were so good I couldn't put down. You can't go wrong with any of these choices and I hope you love them as much as I did!
