JULY BOOKSTACK

With all the chaos in the world right now, I've spent a lot of my free time reading. Nothing gets me more focused and relaxed than coming home from work, and sitting down with a glass of wine and a good read. I'd rather direct my attention and focus to learning and relaxing my mind, rather than sitting on social media or watching the news at this point. So, with that being said, I wanted to share the books I've read this past month!

Here recently I joined the Book of the Month club, and let me tell you, it is well worth it. You get your first book box for $9.99 when you sign up, and you get to pick your "book of the month" from five brand new releases. You get early access to books that haven't even hit the shelves yet, and you are saving a pretty penny by getting your books this way. I get about 3 hardbacks a month for a total of $21.99 or less, whereas elsewhere I'd end up spending almost $70 on the same amount. Anyways, I'm glad I decided to join because I've opened up my eyes to books I may never had read before and I'm apart of a community now who shares the same love for books as me. Below are my favorites from July, and I hope you love this stack as much as I did!

RATING: 5/5 -- Romance
*TOP FAVE!*

Okay, let me start off by saying I have never been disappointed by an Elin Hilderbrand novel. (Her What Happens in Paradise series is amazing, btw.) This one is probably my favorite novel I've ever read by her. You end up feeling like you are best friends with the main character, Mallory. I'm obviously not going to spoil what happens, but Mallory ends up settling down in Nantucket in her early-twenties, and completely falling for the one guy she could not have; but, that didn't stop them from agreeing on a "Same Time, Next Year" plan. This novel shows how even after so many years, true love conquers all. Read this book now, you won't regret it!

RATING: 4/5 -- Gothic Horror

This book ended up being my July, Book of the Month pick. I was a little skeptical when I chose it, because I knew nothing about the gothic horror genre. The thought of it kind of scared me, tbh. I don't do scary things. But, quickly I was SO glad I chose it, because soon enough I saw that this book was instantly loved by the book community. I mean, I have seen it everywhere! Since this was a new genre for me, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was not disappointed. You instantly are intrigued by the storyline from the first five pages. Noemi, a young socialite, is sent by her father to a creepy mansion to check on her cousin's well-being after some worrisome letters. Needless to say, the mansion held so many creepy secrets within their walls, and Noemi soon found out no one in the house could be trusted.

RATING: 5/5 -- Historical Fiction

Wow, just wow. This novel was honestly like something I've never read before. I highly recommend this read, especially right now given the issues our country is facing in terms of race. Bennett's writing is thought-provoking, and the way she interweaves multiple narrators and their stories into one, was amazing. This is a book I believe everyone should read, as it's a beautifully written story that explores the issues of race and identity.

RATING 4/5 -- Suspense / Thriller

It's no secret I love a good thriller. This was another one of my Book of the Month add-on's, and the story line was WILD. I mean I had truly no idea what would happen next, and who was withholding major secrets. This is definitely one of those books where you finish it and are absolutely stunned by the twists and turns of the story line. I liked how each chapter was a different perspective of a character. While sometimes I'm not a fan of back-and-forth narrators, it definitely helped keep my interest of what each character in this book was hiding. If you love a good thriller, this one is for you!

RATING 5/5 -- Suspense/Thriller

Wow, wow, and wow. This one was one of my absolute FAVORITE books I've ever read. I had never read a book by Janelle Brown before, so I took a chance on this one. (Plus I absolutely loved the cover of this book). Let me tell you, there isn't one page in this book that had me uninterested. The entire book was FULL of twists, and you'll always be shocked as to who is conning who. Probably one of the best suspense novels I have EVER read! If there's one book on this list you're going to pick, pick this one!

FYI: It was just recently announced this book is going to be a new TV series starring Nicole Kidman. This book is THAT GOOD!

RATING 3.5/5 -- Suspense / Thriller

I have mixed feelings about this one. I liked it, but didn't love it necessarily. At times I kind of felt like each event in the story line was pretty predictable. I felt like the ending was probably the most eventful part of the whole novel for sure, and I will admit the last-minute twists I definitely didn't expect. I honestly wanted to shake the main character, Shay, for being so naive and easily duped! Some of the details in this book seemed a bit unrealistic. While it's a quick, easy read, it was still a great thriller!

Hopefully my reviews/ratings helped you figure out which book you'll enjoy the most! Already have my August book stack in the works, and can't wait to share in September!
